Melbourne French Theatre: Auditions for “Espèces Menacées”

MTF auditions are opening soon!

The life of mild-mannered accountant Yvon Lemouël hits turbulence when he picks up a briefcase identical to his, but containing an enormous amount of cash at the railway station... A brilliant play of comic mayhem, lies and hapless misunderstanding, Espèces Menacées by Ray Cooney is the forthcoming production from the Melbourne French Theatre and is seeking a cast!

As always, the production will be entirely in French with English sur-titles (just like sub-titles, but projected overhead). So, can you speak French? Are you fabulously dashing and courageous and funny? Are you available from the end of June till 7 September 2013? Then direct yourself post haste to the company’s website to register your interest!

When? Auditions are being held on June 22 and 24.

Melbourne French Theatre: Courteline

In their final show of the year, the Melbourne French Theatre presents a collection of comical sketches by Georges Courteline, including: “Monsieur Badin”, “Une lettre chargée”, “L’Extra-Lucide” and “Avant et Après”. Entirely in French with English surtitles.

When? 8pm Saturday 17 December.
Where? La Maison de Maître Building, 203-205 Canning Street, Carlton.
How much? $15 students, French teachers, MFT members, $20 general admission. Tickets include show, wine and refreshments. Bookings online.

Melbourne French Theatre: Mariages et Conséquences

Melbourne French Theatre have just announced the details of their new production: Mariages et Conséquences, a French adaptation of the Alan Ayckbourn comedy known as Absent Friends.

Clément’s friends are determined to comfort him in his grief over the death of his fiancée, a girl they have never met. They arrange a tea-party for him and are understandably on edge wondering what to say to him as they await his arrival.

Their unease, however, has deeper roots as they are all kept together by a mixture of business and cross-marital emotional ties and by the time Clément arrives, their tension contrasts dramatically with his cheerfully relaxed air. The stage is set for a modern light comedy of manners that quickly turns into a dark comedy of very bad manners.

As always, the Melbourne French Theatre will present the play entirely in French with English subtitles. 

When? Tuesday 23 August to Saturday 27 August 2011.

French Club Event: Molière Double Bill

For those of you keen to catch Melbourne French Theatre's latest production, please join us for the next French Club event!

What? The Molière double bill presented by The Melbourne French Theatre: Le Medecin Volant et La Jalousie de Barbouillé.

When? Thursday 5th May. We're meeting up at 7pm at the Glasshouse Hotel for drinks, then heading to the theatre together. The play starts at 8pm.

Where? To meet up with us at the Glasshouse Hotel beforehand, head to 51 Gipps Street, Collingwood. The play is at Collingwood College Theatre, Cnr Cromwell Street & McCutcheon Way (off Gipps Street), Collingwood.

How much? Student tickets are $12, plus $3 booking fee if booking online. The Melbourne French Theatre recommends booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Otherwise, arrive 30 minutes in advance on the night to purchase tickets from the box office. Remember to bring your student card with you!

Why? To see two wonderful plays by Molière, presented entirely in French! The plays will have English subtitles throughout. And of course to get to better know your fellow French Club members.

Melbourne French Theatre is presenting an Australian premiere of The Flying Doctor and Barbouillé's Jealousy, two classic comedies by Molière, discovered in the 18th century by Jean-Baptiste Rousseau. Full of energy and humour, they are highly inspired by the repertoire of the Commedia dell'Arte. Entirely in French with English subtitles!
