SBS 2’s Tuesday Night French Films

SBS 2 are unrolling a superb selection of French films this winter — thrillers, comedies, dramas. Here are the next three on the immediate horizon.

9:30 Tuesday 14th June
The Beat My Heart Skipped (2005)
28-year-old Tom is following in the footsteps of his thuggish father, who made his money from dirty, and sometimes brutal, real estate deals. Tom has innate musical talent and is torn between dreams of being a concert pianist and the reality of life as a ruthless debt collector.

9:35 Tuesday 21st June
A Christmas Tale (2008)
The Vuillard family’s shared history of physical and mental illness, estrangement, self harm, and loss doesn’t lead itself to the idea of a cheerful holiday season. But can a Christmas time reunion, a scheme concocted by three of the youngest family members, finally bring peace their clan?

9:30 Tuesday 28th June
Shall We Kiss? (2007)
Emmanuel Mouret’s romantic comedy begins with two strangers, Emilie and Gabriel, who end up attracted to each other, even though they both are involved in relationships with others. When Gabriel asks Emilie for a kiss goodnight after a dinner together, she refuses, explaining that a single kiss can alter a life.
